Quite awesome! Even though we didn't have the best weather, our guide still made this memorable (and educational). You probably know the drive from the visitor center to the summit is demanding. Let …Full review by jiminoakland

If you are asking about seeing and standing close to the Lava flow, which is east of the "head" of the volcano is now (as of March 30) a very long 3-1/2 hour hike each way. It will be strenuous and for experienced hikers (with the right boots, etc) The lava flow has shifted and the hikes are longer than before. If you want to see the volcano head (at the Jaggar Museum), it is a very short walk from the parking lot...
A:
We walked from the parking lot to the observation deck at the museum, however beyond the stone wall was all roped off!

Hi there! My Fiance and I just did this two weeks ago and it was wonderful. The guide really does a good job of scaring people so that they know exactly what they are signing up for. Our group was 11 people, and everybody did just fine, though they do not allow children under 13 to do this tour. We barely saw any flowing lava, though we did get close to the lava flowing from the Pali (cliff), which was pretty neat to see. I've heard that the flow has recently nearly stopped completely, but I would check with the company first as they have hourly information on the flow. Our hike ended up being 10.5 miles round trip and took around five hours. Keep in mind that you are walking over rough glass-like terrain that sounds like crunchy snow. I didn't find it to be strenuous, as it's quite flat, though the smoke can affect people with asthma. My feet were very sore by the end of the hike, and saimin at Ken's House of Pancakes never tasted so good (dinner is included in the cost of the tour.) Feel free to read my review on this hike, as I went pretty far into detail. Good luck! :-)
