The first-of-its-kind reserve will be anchored by a stash of Bitcoin the government already owns, estimated to be worth billions of dollars.

The U.S.’s stockpile will favor bitcoin and won’t include purchases that cost taxpayers money, the Trump administration says.

Under Trump’s directive, the federal government’s crypto stockpile will be built around a Bitcoin reserve worth an estimated $17 billion which has been amassed through legal seizures.
