The Red Sox confirmed that first baseman Triston Casas will miss the rest of the season after rupturing the patellar tendon in his left knee Friday night. Boston subsequently promoted utilityman Abraham Toro, who will platoon at first with Romy González.

The dust has settled on Rafael Devers' move to designated hitter, even if a few lazy trade rumors are still prone to circulation. Devers, the long-time Red Sox third baseman, was moved off his preferred position to make room for Gold Glover Alex Bregman to take over the hot corner.

An 0-for-4 effort in Thursday’s 4-3 loss to Seattle offered more evidence that Devers has not found his high gear in the batter’s box yet. Two strikeouts and a weak lineout and pop-up to the opposite field highlighted how the new designated hitter has not located his comfort zone.
