A man has been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman at London's Groucho Club. Metropolitan Police said the alleged rape took place inside the private members' club in Dean Street, Soho, on 13 November. The 34-year-old man, from Hertfordshire, was arrested on Saturday and remains in custody, the force said.

It comes after Westminster City Council suspended the Club’s licence with immediate effect last week after it was reported that a serious crime may have taken place at the famed London venue.

One of London's most famous private members' clubs, The Groucho Club, has shut following claims a "serious crime" had taken place at the premises. Westminster City Council said it had suspended the Soho venue’s licence after a request from the Metropolitan Police.

The Soho club - which has A-list celebrities among its members - has had its licence suspended. Police say there is no suggestion at this stage that staff at the venue were involved.
