The son of Norway ’s crown princess appeared in court on Wednesday to challenge a police request to place him in preventive detention while they investigate an accusation of rape made against him.

Crown Prince Haakon said the police and judiciary must be allowed to do their jobs as they investigate a list of allegations, including rape, against Marius Borg Hoiby, his wife's son from a previous relationship.

The investigation remains ongoing, and initially, the royal family declined to comment, instead directing all questions to the police and Høiby's attorney. This is the third time he has been arrested in recent months.
