Washington State head football coach Jake Dickert announced his decision to relieve defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding of his duties on Monday.

PULLMAN — Jeff Schmedding is out as Washington State’s defensive coordinator. The Cougars announced as much in a Monday release, announcing Schmedding will not return as the team’s defensive coordinator. Schmedding worked that role for two seasons at WSU, whose defense left much to be desired this season.

Before joining Dickert's staff at Wazzu, Schmedding spent two seasons at Auburn, where he started off as assistant head coach and linebackers coach before being elevated to defensive coordinator in 2022.
