The Election Commission of India on Saturday declared the results of by-polls of 48 assembly seats held across 13 states with BJP and its allies winning majority of the seats while Congress won both Lok Sabha constituencies of Wayanad in Kerala and Nanded in Maharashtra.

While much of the outcome was anticipated, the major setbacks for the SP appear to be on the Kundarki (Moradabad) and Katehari (Ambedkar Nagar) seats.

The BJP and its allies Asom Gana Parishad and the United Peoples' Party Liberal have almost swept bypolls in Assam. Whereas, electors gave the thumbs up to Congress nominees in South India.

The Congress on Saturday managed to win the Nanded Lok Sabha seat in Maharashtra. the party, however, lost all the Assembly seats to BJP and Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena.

The bypolls for Nanded Lok Sabha seat was necessitated due to the sudden death of Vasantrao who had defeated sitting BJP MP Pratap Patil Chikhalikar by a handsome margin of over 59,000 votes.
