Salvage crews have recovered the last large pieces of aircraft wreckage from the Potomac River on Thursday and are focusing on collecting small pieces from the crash site where 67 died.

The remains of all 67 victims of last week’s midair collision between an American Airlines jet and a U.S. Army Helicopter have been pulled from the Potomac River.

WASHINGTON (7News) — All 67 victims from the midair collision near Reagan National Airport have been recovered, according to Unified Command, but only 66 of them have been positively identified. Officials are waiting on testing results to positively identify the final victim, according to a spokesperson for the Unified Command efforts.

I don’t know of any other accident that has had this amount of impact on aviation but also in other industries,” one expert said of the 1982 crash.

The U.S. Army helicopter that collided with an passenger jet near Washington, D.C., had an advanced surveillance system turned off.
