Mayor John Whitmire addressed safety concerns and the incoming Houston freeze Friday as runners prepare for Sunday's Chevron Houston Marathon Sunday. “The Chevron Marathon must go on,” Whitmire said during a Friday morning news conference.

Mayor John Whitmire ’s administration has rescinded a city policy that allowed Houston’s municipal workers to work a hybrid schedule, coming into the office on some days and working remotely at home on others.

Between a deal with the firefighters union and an investigation at the police department, it’s been a busy year.

"The best way to serve the public is to work together in the office, enhancing collaboration and making the City of Houston more effective," Mayor Whitmire said.

The City of Houston has announced all employees will transition full-time to their assigned offices beginning on February 1.

Municipal workers will have to be back in-office starting Feb. 1 unless given an approved exception from management.
