Meta Platforms is establishing a new division within its Reality Labs unit to develop AI-powered humanoid robots that can assist with physical tasks, according to an internal company memo viewed by Reuters on Friday.

Apple and Meta are set to go toe-to-toe in another emerging area: AI-powered humanoid robots. Also: Apple ramps up development of a new external Mac display, ponders monetizing its maps app for the first time and is racing to bring AI features to China.

Meta reportedly plans to develop software that can power robots built by other companies—like Android does for smartphones—rather than launching its own Meta-branded robot.
