Mikaela Shiffrin will be sidelined for at least a few weeks after she suffered a puncture wound in her abdomen and severe muscle trauma during a giant slalom race in Killington, Vermont, the twice Olympic gold medallist said on Monday.

Shiffrin said Monday she was thankful to avoid worse after her fall Saturday during the giant slalom at a World Cup event in Vermont.

After sustaining multiple injuries during the Alpine Ski World Cup, Olympic skier Mikaela Shiffrin is on the mend.
