Then there was perhaps THE storyline: Oscar Piastri’s ten-second penalty for a Safety Car infringement, coming after the McLaren driver braked heavily near the end of a Safety Car period. Piastri was running up front and leading the field to the restart, but after serving the penalty he came out behind Norris, and had to settle for second.

The lead car can dictate the pace of the restart, but Piastri was pinged by race stewards for "suddenly" braking. He received a 10-second time penalty, which he served during a pitstop. As a result, McLaren teammate Lando Norris took the race lead and went on to claim victory in his home Grand Prix.

Oscar Piastri controlled the majority of the wet/dry race at Silverstone but wound up in second, and was left to seethe at the outcome 0f Sunday's Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
