U.S. stock futures swung between gains and losses on Wednesday after ending on a mixed note on Tuesday. Futures of major benchmark indices were mixed.
S&P 500 futures were higher Tuesday, boosted by gains in Nvidia, as traders pored through the latest U.S. inflation data. Futures tied to the S&P 500 rose 0.3%, while Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.6%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures shed 83 points, or 0.2%.
Oil futures slipped 0.7% to $66.52 a barrel in New York. Natural gas futures bounced back above the $3.50 per million British thermal units level, as traders continued to with help from midday data showing a slightly warmer temperature outlook.
With recent announcements of 30% tariffs on the EU, Mexico and Canada, as well as 25% tariffs on Japan and South Korea, all scheduled to begin August 1, economists expect June's higher inflation figures to continue gaining steam in subsequent months.
Stock futures were little changed on Wednesday evening after the S&P 500 recouped some of its losses from this week's tariff-fueled slide. S&P 500 futures traded just below the flatline, along with Nasdaq 100 futures. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average were down 37 points, or less than 0.1%.

Dow futures fall as President Donald Trumps tariff deadline approaches, raising fresh concerns on Wall Street. With the 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs ending July 9, Trump officials warn duties could return to their harsh “Liberation Day” levels by August 1 unless new trade deals are signed.
In the letter from the White House, the President declared that any retaliation by Canada would be met by the US raising its 35% tariff by an identical figure. Trump singled out Canada's tariffs on the US dairy industry, which he claimed go as high as 400% in some cases.
