Elon Musk has reinstated Marko Elez, a former DOGE employee, who resigned after his racist social media posts went viral.

Vice President JD Vance says Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency should rehire a staff member who resigned after he was linked to social media posts that espoused racism.

The decision came after Vice President JD Vance and then President Donald Trump backed the reinstatement of the staffer, Marko Elez.

Elon Musk announced on X Friday that DOGE staffer Marko Elez would be rehired after he resigned on Thursday following reports he made racists post in the past. Musk, who hired the 25-year-old, put up a poll on X asking, “Bring back @DOGE staffer who made inappropriate statements via a now-deleted pseudonym?”

Elez resigned from his post at Musk's Department of Government Efficiency, better known as DOGE, on Thursday after the Wall Street Journal uncovered that Elez had published racist statements on an anonymous account that once bore his name. However, on Friday, Musk confirmed he could bring Elez back to DOGE.

The DOGE staffer has been identified as Marko Elez, and earlier in the day he had controversially been given approval by a federal judge to access the U.S. Treasury’s payments database, along with a second employee working for Musk.
