British rider Simon Yates has won the first mountainous stage of the Tour de France while Irish rider Ben Healy consoled himself by taking the yellow jersey for the overall leader.

Ben Healy rode himself into the ground in a nail-biting finale to become the first Irishman in 38 years to wear the yellow jersey at the Tour de France, as Britain’s Simon Yates claimed victory in stage 10 on Monday with a perfectly timed attack.

Simon Yates (Visma-Lease a Bike) soloed to victory on stage 10 of the Tour de France from the day's breakaway. Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost) moved into the race lead as Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates XRG) let the breakaway gain several minutes.
