AUSTIN — The University of Texas System approved the plan Thursday to provide tuition-free education at all nine institutions for undergraduate students from families earning $100,000 or less a year, beginning next fall.

The University of Texas System announced Wednesday it will expand its free tuition program for lower-income families to include all families making $100,000 or less a year.

The University of Texas is taking significant steps to enhance access to higher education by expanding its free tuition program.

This is an extension of UT's Promise Plus program, which aims to remove barriers for economically challenged students enrolling in university.

For students whose families earn less than $100,000 per year, the school will also cover other costs, including housing, dining, fees and an allowance for books and personal expenses.

Nearly half a dozen institutions of higher education announced plans this week to make tuition free for undergraduates whose families make below a certain income threshold, starting in fall 2025.
