Voters in Delaware are set to decide the nominees for several political contests, including a closely watched campaign for governor and a potentially historic race for U.S.

Shupe was ahead of Smith by 11 votes in the Republican Primary for the southern Delaware seat, covering Milford, Lincoln, Ellendale, Cedar Neck, Broadkill Beach, Slaughter Beach, and parts of Milton. Shupe was first elected to the House seat in 2018 after serving as a Milford councilmember and the city’s mayor.

It is the first time in recent memory that a House Speaker was defeated in a primary in Delaware. Smith is unopposed in November's general election. Smith defeated Longhurst by 180 votes on the Sep. 10 primary. Longhurst held the office and represented District 15, in Bear, for almost 20 years. Her term ends on Nov. 5.

State Senator Sarah McBride could make history as the first openly transgender person elected to the U.S. Congress, with Delaware's Democratic primary to take place on Tuesday. McBride is competing for the state's sole U.

Much of the political world is understandably focused on tonight's presidential debate, but today also marks this year's final day of party primaries for downballot offices before the Nov. 5 general election.

State Senator Sarah McBride faces nominal opposition in the Democratic primary for Delaware’s at-large U.S. House seat — a bid that, if successful in November, would make her the first openly transgender member of the U.S. Congress.

Kathy McGuiness had hired her daughter and let her work remotely at college in South Carolina. Claire-Snyder won the three-candidate primary.

The voter registration deadline is the fourth Saturday before the general election. The deadline for the general election is Saturday, Oct. 12. You must be a resident of Delaware, a United States citizen and be 18 on or before the election. You may register to vote online at https://ivote.de.gov.
