Should Minnesota have a new official state song? Or maybe two of them? A group of bipartisan state senators have introduced a bill that would make both Prince’s “Purple Rain” and Bob Dylan’s “Girl from the North Country” the state’s official songs.

A bipartisan group of state senators introduced the bill to include "Purple Rain", composed by Prince and the Revolution and "Girl from the North Country", composed by Bob Dylan, to the list of state songs.

Dylan's last gospel record included one of his best '80s songs, the heavenly "Every Grain of Sand." It also spawned a B-side, "The Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar," that ranks among his toughest tracks in years. Everything else, to paraphrase one of its cuts, is watered-down Dylan.
