The two key equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, on Monday extended their leads and ended the session on a positive note, rising over 1 per cent each, helped by a rally in blue-chip stocks and the BJP pulling off a stunning performance in Maharashtra Assembly polls.

BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, rallied strongly in trade on Monday. While the BSE Sensex surged over 1,300 points, Nifty50 crossed 24,350 intraday.

The 30-share BSE Sensex pack surged more than 1,300 points to hit above 80,450 level, while the broader NSE Nifty index moved around 400 points to trade above 24,300. Last checked, Sensex was up 1,261 points or 1.
