It was an election result that never seemed to be in doubt, with political unknown James Powers challenging a hugely popular sheriff in Mike Chitwood. The sheriff took about 81 percent of the votes.

The position was held by Scott Chitwood, who ran against Republican Darren Pierce. When all the votes were counted, Chitwood lost by a deficit of eight points or a little over three thousand votes.
