Hazrat Aban (ra) was amongst the enemies during the Battle of Badr, and had granted protection to Hazrat Uthman (ra) during the incident of the treaty of Hudaibiyah.
Uthman, 42, was convicted in 2003 of a hate crime for setting fire to Temple Beth El temple in Syracuse in 2000. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
Another witness against Uthman was Salim Hamdan, whose legal battle against the U.S. government resulted in a landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling throwing out earlier military commissions.
