Simon Mariani, 28, of Franklin Lakes, died July 14 as a result of injuries sustained six days earlier while golfing at Ballyowen Golf Club in Hardyston. His death was announced in an obituary published by Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home in his hometown.

Mariani was struck by lightning while playing at Ballyowen Golf Course around 1:50 p.m. on July 8, police said. Officers responded to the golf course for a person reported “down on the golf course” and provided care to Mariani before he was airlifted to Cooperman Barnabas Hospital for treatment,
