Nigeria’ has warned of possible flooding in 11 states following the release of water from a dam in neighboring Cameroon

Authorities say severe flooding in northeastern Nigeria has left 30 people dead and affected more than a million others.

Nigeria's hydrological services agency has warned of potential flooding in 11 states after neighbouring Cameroon said it was starting to release water from one of its largest dams following recent heavy rainfall in West and Central Africa.

The release of water from the Lagdo dam is an annual event, and has triggered flooding in Nigeria in the past — including in 2022 when more than 500 people were killed.
