Kansas City dramatically changed the way it approaches snow and ice storms four years ago. How did it do with this past weekend’s storm?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Good morning and happy Sunday! It is a cold start to the day with temperatures in the teens and low 20s. With these cold temperatures, be mindful of any refreezing that occurred overnight as there could be slick spots on roads and bridges. This trend of frigid mornings will be here through Tuesday before a slight warm-up.

Widespread accumulating snow across Kansas City causes travel impacts as our firth snow of the season impacts the area with inches of snow.

The snow, which has already covered parts of the metro’s roads and highways, could affect post-Thanksgiving holiday travel and shopping. According to the Kansas City Scout traffic management system, average highway speeds in the Northland have dropped below 30 mph.

Kansas City has perfected their street cleaning shell game. Main roads are prioritized and generally get pretty good coverage . . . Meanwhile, everybody else is on their own with an emphasis on cleaning INFLUENTIAL neighborhoods first.

A cold snap has gripped the Kansas City area causing temperatures to plunge across the metro, the National Weather Service said. “Below normal temperatures are expected today (Friday) through Monday,” the weather service said.
