The Toronto Maple Leafs may not be finished upgrading their defense this season after landing blueliners Jani Hankanpaa, Chris Tanev, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson during the summer. The Maple Leafs are now keeping tabs on new Anaheim Ducks defenseman Jacob Trouba for a potential pre-deadline acquisition following his trade from the New York Rangers on Friday.

Trouba waived his no-trade clause for the deal after a standoff with the Rangers and a looming threat of being placed on waivers.

On Friday, Dec. 6, the Rangers traded defenseman Trouba (30) to the Ducks in exchange for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen (25) and a 2025 fourth-round pick in one of the most high-profile and dramatic exits from an organization in recent memory.
