Sticky inflation might make it more tricky for Fed rate cuts, CPI could show

The Fed doesn't base its interest-rate moves on the CPI, however. The central bank prefers the less publicized personal-consumption expenditures, or PCE, price index as the best measure of inflation. Yet the CPI feeds into the PCE index and foreshadows changes in the Fed's favorite inflation gauge, which comes out at the end of each month.
