Gov. Moore is aiming to produce $50 million in savings for the state in the current fiscal year. And that's on top of his plan for $2 billion in cuts.

At the start of his administration, Moore issued a goal to rebuild the state government workforce, which shriveled under former Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican.

The first storm is a fiscal crisis nearly a decade in the making. Under the former administration, state spending increased by 70% in the seven years before I took office, while our economic growth flatlined.

None of these things are easy. All of them are necessary,” Maryland Gov. Wes aMoore said in a news conference unveiling his plan.

Governor Wes Moore says 82% of Marylanders will see a cut or no change in their taxes, while the richest 18% will see increases. He did not say how much that increase will be.

Without selling the tax increases that the governor unveiled in his $67 billion budget proposal on Wednesday, Moore faces making even deeper cuts to balance the state’s finances.
