It's too bad the Ryzen Z series is affected by the same technological mix-and-match game that AMD plays with its laptop processors, continuing to rebrand old silicon and reserving the most significant progress for top-of-the-line chips.

AMD has announced three new Ryzen Z2 processors for gaming handhelds ahead of its CES 2025 keynote presentation. All three APUs will target different power levels, though only the highest-tier chip, the Z2 Extreme, uses a newer CPU architecture.

AMD's batch of CES announcements this year includes just two new products for desktop PC users: the new Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D. Both will be available at some point in the first quarter of 2025.
