ARE, Sweden (AP) — Federica Brignone is still relentless in giant slalom races and Mikaela Shiffrin is still searching for form after her serious crash in November. Brignone was fastest in the first run of a World Cup giant slalom Saturday and Shiffrin failed to finish. She skied out wide after taking too much speed into a right-hand turn.

Federica Brignone won the giant slalom in Are, Sweden, on Saturday, to extend her lead over Lara Gut-Behrami in the race for the overall World Cup crystal globe. The 34-year-old Italian was fastest in both runs for a combined time of 1min 52.67sec and an emphatic 1.36sec margin over New Zealander Alice Robinson.

Italy's Federica Brignone continued her hot form and consolidated her lead at the top of the overall World Cup standings by winning the Giant Slalom race in Aare, Sweden, on Saturday. It is the 36th World Cup win of the 34-year-old's career and her ninth of the season.
