Dubbed "Mt. Fuji Lawson," the store is a common Japanese franchise – but this one had tourists coming out in droves for the stunning view behind it.
One week after a small town announced it was taking unorthodox measures to prevent overtourism at a popular selfie spot near Mount Fuji, a business caught up in the controversy has made a statement.
The Lawson saw an overwhelming mass of visitors on a daily basis trying to get a snapshot of its modern blue facade against the natural splendour of Japan’s tallest peak, Mt Fuji.
Visitors named the spot in Fujikawaguchiko "Mt. Fuji Lawson" after the store's name. The town, however, put up black netting to block the view after residents complained tourists would break laws.
