Six years after the Woolsey Fire tore through Los Angeles and Ventura counties, killing three people and destroying hundreds of homes, the Franklin Fire erupted Monday night in the same area of Malibu devastated by the 2018 wildfire.

A wildfire in Southern California has destroyed homes and prompted evacuations in Malibu, the iconic, affluent and mountainous beach community.

Around 20,000 Southern California residents are under evacuation orders and warnings after a fast-moving wildfire spread through 2,800 acres.

The Franklin Fire has burned 2,851 acres in Malibu, prompting evacuations and a shelter-in-place order at the Pepperdine University campus, which has since been lifted.
