Half a dozen groups and employers who oppose abortion are suing Gov. JB Pritzker and other state officials, aiming to stop them from enforcing a law that requires health insurers in Illinois to cover abortions and abortion medications at no cost to patients.

A number of anti-abortion groups are suing Gov. Pritzker, Attorney General Kwame Raoul and Ann Gillespie, the acting director of the Department of Insurance, hoping to ban the enforcement of a state law requiring insurance policies to provide coverage for abortion care.

Attorneys with the Thomas More Society filed the federal lawsuit Wednesday on behalf of several organizations including Students for Life of America, Pro-Life Action League and Illinois Right to Life.
