After turning Marshall University into a force in the Sunbelt, HBCU product Charles Huff will look to do the same at Southern Miss.

Marshall football coach Charles Huff has been hired for the same role at Southern Miss. Huff's hiring comes a day after Marshall won the Sun Belt championship game.

On Sunday afternoon, after a Sun Belt Conference Championship victory less than 24 hours earlier, Tony Gibson was named the 32nd head coach of Marshall Football, and former head coach Charles Huff was also named the new leader of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WTVA) — Charles Huff is the new head football coach at the University of Southern Mississippi. The athletics department announced the hire on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 8. Huff comes to Hattiesburg after four seasons as head coach at Marshall University, posting a 32-20 record.

Marshall won the Sun Belt championship game on Saturday over Louisiana to move to 10-3 on the season. Huff would be the second coach to move on shortly after winning a conference

One day after winning Marshall’s first Sun Belt title, Charles Huff is the new head coach of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Huff and Marshall did not agree to a contract extension prior to the end of his four-year agreement on Saturday.

Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain announced Sunday afternoon the hiring of Charles Huff as the school’s 23rd head football coach.
