The Seattle Kraken are in the midst of a retool, and, per David Pagnotta, may move on from star forward Jared McCann.

SEATTLE – There was no need for Kraken GM Jason Botterill to get so defensive.

With their second-round pick in the 2025 NHL draft, the Seattle Kraken selected a young defenseman with Dallas-area ties. The Kraken drafted Frisco’s Blake Fiddler with the 36th overall pick.

After they used their first-round pick to take a forward for the fifth straight year, the Kraken ran off four straight defenseman selections on Day 2 of the NHL draft.

The Seattle Kraken have already been making moves ahead of the beginning of free agency on July 1. On June 21, the Kraken traded Andre Burakovsky to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Joe Veleno.
