The Waze alerts on Google Maps are just another harrowing reminder of our eventual foray into a buttonless future.

As spotted on Reddit, Google Maps has started flashing up pop-ups reporting incidents with a note that they’re from Waze users. In this case it was the police, and Google Maps was asking whether they were still there — a feature Google Maps has been offering for a while.

Google Maps is now starting to show Waze incident reports while you navigate and includes the ability to contribute by confirming road conditions in the app via prompts. Google announced in July that both apps would cross-pollinate more data,

First previewed in July, the feature displays roadblocks reported by Waze drivers in the Google Maps app. You can dismiss them or add details based on your own journey.

We're not sure why it took so long to implement, but Google Maps users can now see Waze's (arguably superior) crowd-sourced incident report markers on their navigation routes.

The ability to report incidents is what made Waze popular in the first place, and while Maps has had this feature for a few years now, the Maps version isn't anywhere near as robust. As a result, Waze has developed a large number of dedicated users that take the time to report incidents.

Google Maps now shows reports from Waze on Android Auto, a feature that also just launched in the mobile app too.
