A woman has died following an early hours house fire in Portsmouth. Firefighters and police were called to the home in Portsdown Road on Monday shortly before 05:30 GMT. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the 66-year-old was pronounced dead at the Queen Alexandra Hospital. The force said her next of kin had been informed.

Assistant Fire Chief Charles Walker noted that the home did not have any smoke detectors and encouraged Philly residents to call 311 to get them for free.
