The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is getting ready to reopen next month after more than five years of closure.

Notre-Dame Cathedral will soon reopen its doors after undergoing a five-year renovation period. A fire on April 15, 2019 left significant damage to the iconic cathedral and prompted its yearslong closure to the public. For over eight centuries, the cathedral has been a place of worship and gatherings, as well as a popular tourist attraction.

Jackson DuBois, a 49-year-old from Cooperstown, NY, spent three months in France last year working to rebuild the 850-year-old Notre Dame Cathedral, which was severely damaged by a fire in April 2019. After an estimated $767 million in repairs by skilled craftspeople from around the world, it is set to reopen to the public Dec. 8.

Visitors will be able to admire Viollet-le-Duc's restored spire, as well as the roofs of the nave and choir. Three themed tour routes will be offered, each enabling visitors to discover different facets of the cathedral, from religious heritage to works of art.
