The Fourth of July is starting mostly sunny and warm in metro Denver, but a few fireworks in the form of thunder storms are expected to develop in the afternoon.

Thursday will be another hot day across the Denver metro area and Eastern Colorado with afternoon highs climbing into the 90s. Highs in the mountains will drop a couple of degrees as compared to Wednesday,

The July Fourth holiday weekend started on a stormy note for many around the tri-state as a line of powerful thunderstorms swept through the area, bringing down trees and power lines.

A fast-moving and violent thunderstorm killed three people and left a path of destruction in central New Jersey.

Severe storms in New Jersey have resulted in "fatalities," Gov. Phil Murphy confirmed in a statement on social media.
