Most of the good PS2 games are already on the Playstation Store, but there are tons of PS2 games that need to see the light of day. Playstation 4 doesn't have a PS1, PS2, or PS3 emulator. Playstation 4 also does not have sufficient CPU power to properly emulate the PS2. Let alone try emulating the PS3.

It is backwards compatible since it is a 2006 console but I think it doesn't have the actual PS2 chip inside. I think only the US and Japan launch models had the PS2 chip while other countries launch PS3 used the same software emulation for PS2 that the CECHE01 US PS3 had.

The second one I found someone selling theirs for only $100 and they didn't know it's a backwards compatible model even though I saw the picture showing CECHA01. My E01 I haven't opened to do a thermal paste change so might need to soon but the other three I have opened and cleaned/thermal paste changed.

Also Sony was taking a loss on all PS3s, but especially the backwards compatibility that had part of the PS2 inside (Emotion Engine chip) made it more expensive, so they dropped it. In the future they'll likely have Gaikai streaming options for older titles along with more ports.
