These days even action games have narrative and character progression system, as well as builds variety. The incentive to stick with turn based has decreased.

It was a fantasy world that drew you in, and expanded my imagination beyond the 32 bit pixelated moving characters on the screen. As the story unfolded, it became even more intriguing with the time loop.

Around half the mainline titles have a time-travel component and good luck finding a FF that doesn't have technology. The whole "ancient race of advanced tech people who disappeared after some major event" is a well-worn trope of many FF titles.
