Jun 27, 2008 · As far as withdrawals from my Roth 401(k), I suspect that the custodian/employer may set limits on early withdrawals. If the Roth 401(k) were rolled into a Roth IRA, I assume that the IRS would be consistent with their withdrawal rules, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks in advance.

Nov 6, 2019 · Essentially, if I understand Roth 401k withdrawal rules correctly, then we can withdraw Roth 401k contributions at any time at no penalty because they are post-tax contributions. So, my new plan is as follows: 401k contributions - 20% Roth 401k contributions - up to limit ($19500 each in 2020)

Roth conversion clocks no longer apply after age 59½ because Roth conversion clocks relate only to early-distribution penalties and being age 59½ is already an exception to that penalty.

A 401(k) plan may allow hardship withdrawal‘s, but that is up to the individual company, and the rules to qualify for a hardship withdrawal may vary. If you are no longer employed with the plan sponsor, then it will be no problem to do a roll over to an IRA and then withdraw the money.
